HELC, in collaboration with RTSL, has developed a Model State Public Health Bill that serves as a comprehensive and robust health security framework for the several states in Nigeria. This draft legislation is designed to enhance health security, public hygiene, and overall public health and well-being within the states.

The Model State Public Health Law aims to establish mechanisms for effectively communicating public health risks to individuals and communities. It provides a framework for a coordinated and timely public health response to various events, ensuring that the response aligns with the specific risks involved and avoids unnecessary infringements on human rights.

Furthermore, this draft law promotes information sharing, communication, and coordination between the state health authorities and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). By establishing effective partnerships and collaborative efforts, the law enhances the overall health security measures within the states.

The Model State Public Health Bill serves as a crucial instrument in establishing a comprehensive and standardized approach to health security for States in Nigeria. Its provisions aim to protect and promote the health and well-being of the population, ensuring effective response and mitigation strategies for public health events.
